The RedWay is yet another DIY Segway, otherwise known as a 2-wheeled balancing electric scooter. As a maker I could no resist the temptation to build a DIY Segway knowing the project would require welding, electronics, software, plastic molding, etc. The RedWay is a work in progress that was built using many resources including books and websites.

My goal is to build a Segway-like replica that is actually usable and that is safe. The current work in progress is not very pretty, however the first version is not about looks and more about trying out different ideas in order to make version 2.0 which is both usable and asthetically pleasing. While the commercial Segway has multiple levels of redundancy and multiple hundreds of thousands more in R&D, testing, etc., I hope to help discover a middleground where a DIY Segway can really work as a transportation mechanism. For me, I'm planning on using it around my house and office and not for any cross country adventure.

I've learned quite a bit about aspects of the Arduino that I was not previously knowledgeable and also learned more than I ever wanted to know about gyroscopes and accelerometers.

Eventually, this site will contain sketches and individual pictures of pieces being developed over time. Below are some pictures of the current work in progress:
